Happy Social Media Day from BEMD.
Today is one of those small internet days that can easily become too loud if we allow it. Everybody will post something about connection, community, content, brands, influence, and all the usual big English.
But let’s bring it home a little.
Social media has helped many people in Port Harcourt find apartments, discover land opportunities, learn about neighbourhoods, and avoid some very unnecessary mistakes. Somebody posts road work in Elelenwo. Another person complains about flooding in one estate. Someone in Rukpokwu shares that a place they thought was far is now getting serious development.
That kind of information is useful.
The problem starts when we mistake visibility for credibility.
A clean Instagram page does not mean a clean title.
A nice drone video does not mean the land is dry.
A fine office photo does not mean the company has documents you can verify.
A confident agent on WhatsApp status does not mean you should send money before asking questions.
Social media is a good place to notice things. It is not where you finish your due diligence.
Use it to learn. Use it to compare. Use it to ask better questions. Use it to check if people are saying the same thing about a place over time.
But before you pay for land or property, leave the timeline small and enter real life.
Ask for documents.
Visit the site.
Confirm the area.
Check access roads.
Ask what happens during rainy season.
Speak to someone who understands the location, not just someone who wants your transfer alert.
Because on social media, everything can look ready.
But land does not care about captions.
It will still be where it is. With its own history, drainage, access, title issues, family issues, community issues, and future value.
So yes, Happy Social Media Day.
May your timeline connect you to useful information, not pressure. May it teach you something before it convinces you to buy something. And may you remember that the best property decisions are not made because a post was fine.
They are made because the facts were clear.
